Snow Days

“Snow Days Feel Like Divine Permission to Rest…

… Unexpected time off after a snowfall feels like a gift because it removes the pressure to be productive. Helena Fitzgerald

Maybe you’ve noticed, we often close up shop early on a declared snow storm, yet we stay open for lunch. There are a few reasons for this.

Our evening shifts are typically staffed with students. They have enjoyed a lovely day off and probably played hard and are resting. We would like them to enjoy their rest.

Some are driven by their folks to work. Others are new drivers. Neither need to be on the road during a storm.

And then there is our lunch crew. They are quite a team. They carpool together. They are adults who thrive on a challenge. They love the rush that comes with lunch line out the door. They are clever and get a kick out of solving tricky problems together.

Here’s to you: Estevan, Allissa, Dom & Jordan!

Our lunch customers are super loyal regulars. They are not likely to get the day off, and will be hungry for lunch after plowing snow, moving pallets, working production, twisting wrenches, hauling lumber, crunching numbers, routing calls. Y’all know who you are. We are in this together. We appreciate you.

To our customers, please know we enjoy and appreciate you.

Even though we aim to keep the drama out of the kitchen, it still finds us. It makes for good story telling. Estevan recently declared,

“This place would make a a great tv show.”

Flash floods have streamed through the shop from our back door to our front door, leaving inches of mud and detritus to shovel away.

One time, lightening literally struck at our back door and our customers hit the floor, ducking for cover. Wires hung about as linemen worked to sort it all out.

And then there was a fourth of July weekend, shelter-in-place lock down. Someone decided to shoot randomly out his apartment window, in our general direction. It was not personal. Paul was having a bad day. But, it was still scary. Our back lot filled quickly with emergency responders and sharp shooters hunkering down behind dumpsters and parked cars. You guys did a great job.

Because of you, we have work and enjoy the work, in your good company.
