Raccoons and heifers and pigs, oh my!
Managing extra. Whaaaat? Extra slices???
We make our soups and lunch specials in small batches, so they typically sell out quickly. We order sparingly, because our food storage is a teeny, weeny, micro-space - like a tiny house minus wheels.
Our biggest secret (shhhhh) is this: we have a large following of animals who quietly enjoy Nino’s Pizza.
All of our trim, scraps, peelings and ripped or burned pies go to the Hart Homestead where their pigs & chickens are very well fed. We are deeply grateful to the Hart Farm for their service. They stewart a small homestead with a farm stand. Shannon takes care of the farm and Sam runs Hart’s Auto Repair.
Right, but what about all the extra slices? Yes, there are (GASP) unsold case pie slices, at the end of the night. Even with the best planning, we have some slices left over. But don’t fret. We have a plan.
Staff gets first pick. Those slices go home to their families. From time to time, we bring a variety box of slices to the Charter House for the guests and staff.
Janice feeds her furry friends from the wild.
Wyatt would bring slices to his heffers and goats. Shout out to Wyatt where ever you are!
And we’ve been told dogs and cats like pizza too! So there you have it - Nino’s food waste management system.
